We began this year optimistic that with active organizations, meaningful activities, and responsible student leadership our students could not only participate but excel in various events. Our students have proven this optimism well-founded. Although some have already been recognized in other ways, I want to take this opportunity to personally congratulate those students who participate, who give their best, and who are acknowledged as winners. As the change of seasons becomes apparent on our campus, many changes are showing within the college. The Horticulture Technology department is busy with the transformation on one of the greenhouses to a conservatory. Spring Fever was at an epidemic high on Wednesday, April 18 at WCC. That was the day of the SGA-sponsored Spring Fling. WCC students took advantage of the warm spring day by participating in activities sponsored by the SG A, the student activities office, and the Circle K Club. These activities included an Dean’s List for Winter Quarter 1983-1984 The Dean’s List for the academic quarter of school year 1983-1984 was announced March 10, 1984. The students listed below maintained a quality point average of 3.50 or higher on a regular quarter’s work of not less than 12 quarter hours with no incompletes and no grade below a “C.” These students should be congratulated on their achievement and a dedication to studing, learning, and an interest in obtaining a better education. This futuristic advance in our excellent horticulture facilities will enable WCC to offer a larger variety of classes and better serve the students interested in landscaping. As with the hydroponic greenhouse, this facility will allow us to remain at the forefront of horticulture technological training. Computers are quickly becoming a familiar sight on campus and they are being received egg toss, frisbee throw, pie throw, mud wrestling, a greased pole climb, a three-legged race. Music was provided by two bands. Subway and Tuff Breaks. Roselli’s and the Ye Hosts provided the food to round out this festive day. Both the microcomputer labs in the business and math departments are being utilized to capacity by students eager to learn about them and with them. But computer-based learning is not limited to business and math courses, as our students are discovering. For the second quarter, English Composition is being taught this spring in the computer lab. Our Hotel/ Restau rant Technology students are using computer program developed at Cornell University to study everything from menu planning to Sherry Winebarger Sherry Winebarger is the daughter of Blaine and Ann Winebarger of Beaver Creek. She is a 1982 graduate of Beaver Creek High School. Sherry has been a full time student at WCC since the fall quarter of 1982. She is a sophomore in the college transfer program. After graduating from WCC Sherry plans on transferring to Catawba College in SaUsbury, NC. There she will be majoring in Advertising and Marketing Management. Sherry is actively involved in the Phi Beta Lambda Club here at WCC. Currently, she is serving as secretary to this club. Sherry is also very involved in working with children. She enjoys giving her time to work with children several times throughout the week. Sherry’s hobbies include reading, poetry, and art. If you haven’t got to know Sherry yet, stop her in the hall and say hello. Sherry is a very likeable and easy to get along with. By: Remi Wellborn SGA February 15-18, SGA represent atives and advisors traveled to Raleigh for the N4CSGA (North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association) winter conference. Topics of discussion cost analysis. Foreign language workshops are being held in our computer lab and students are waiting in line to enroll in our wordprocessing classes. Com puters are definitely becoming a way of life for WCC students. WCC is constantly striving to stay abreast with the technological training our students need and demand. And we are proud to be able to meet their demands and to be able to graduate the highly skilled technological leaders of tomorrow. David E. Daniel Mark Eller Mark Dean Eller is the son of Earl and Joyce Eller and resides in North Wilkesboro. He is a 1983 graduate of North Wilkes High School. Mark is a freshman in the College Transfer program here at WCC. His plans include transferring to Appalachian State University at the end of this year. While he is a student at ASU he will be majoring in Economics and Marketing in the College of Business. After graduation he hopes to be employed in this business area. Mark is an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoys participating in sports more than anything. He also enjoys watching sports on TV. He has participated throughout the school year in the intramural programs at WCC. This quarter he is planning to be on the school golf team. Mark is always busy. If you can’t find him at school, drop by West Park Nautilus where Mark works during the week. Mark also enjoys the beach, snow skiing and many other hobbies. One of his most favorite hobbies is watching women. Mark is an excellent person and studetn. He has a deep value for friendship and thinks a lot about people. If you don’t know him yet, stop him in the hall and say hello. By: Remi Wellborn included a state-wide school voter registration drive, state-wide softball tournament, and the recognition of a community college alumni committee. Students attended workshops on public relations, assertion, veterans affair, and development of alumni associations. The N4CSGA Western Divisional meeting was held at the WCC campus March 24, at 1:00 p.m. All interested students were invited as we, with Gaston Community College, co-hosted this meeting. The spring conference will be held in Greenville, NC, May 9-12; As local SGA elections are near, executive council candidates should note this date. Those in attendance for the conference were Nancy Huffman, Tony Witherspoon, Sherry Miller, Remi Welborn, Denise Burks, Jerri Wells, Bob Paisley, and Alan Whittington.
